In short

41 of the top 100 tech companies have a technical vacancy in Spain, and 50 have none. Madrid is where the big vendors sell and deploy: 46% of its adverts are solutions or pre-sales engineering. Barcelona is where they build software, AI and hardware. Valencia, Málaga and Tarragona host chip, security and vehicle-engineering centres. Only 16 of 159 adverts publish a Spanish salary range, and only 2 describe the interview process.

Value = market capitalisation on 17 Sep 2026, or latest private valuation (Crunchbase, June 2026) where marked private. Spain results = the employer's own Spain-filtered count across all job types (n/d = the site doesn't show one). Tech adverts kept is capped at five per employer, so large recruiters such as Amazon, Revolut and Schneider Electric are under-represented. The amber status also covers Xiaomi, whose job search couldn't be loaded. Uber's Madrid filter returns no jobs, but its country-wide total couldn't be pulled. Employer names link to the official search we used.

  • 21outside the two big cities. Valencia is a chip-design cluster (Analog Devices ×4, Infineon ×3). Málaga hosts Google's security engineering centre plus Vodafone and Keysight. The rest are Tesla's vehicle-engineering test site at Santa Oliva (Tarragona), Schneider Electric's field engineers and Zaragoza's data centres.

  • 46%of Madrid adverts are solutions or pre-sales engineering (19 of 41): ServiceNow, Databricks, Adobe, IBM, Google's forward-deployed engineer and the AI labs. Madrid is where the big vendors sell and deploy, not where they build products.
  • 9 · 9 · 9Barcelona splits evenly between software, AI and data, and hardware, with just 3 solutions roles. Apple's Siri language engineers, Keysight's AI team, King's game engineers, Monolithic Power's chip designers and N26's backend teams all build here.
  • 71%of adverts outside the two big cities are hardware or physical engineering (15 of 21): chip design in Valencia, Tesla's vehicle engineering in Santa Oliva, data centres in Zaragoza and Schneider's field engineers.
  • 0Barcelona-only security roles. The 17 security adverts are in Madrid (6), multi-city European postings (8), remote (2) and Málaga (1): CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Cisco, Google and Vodafone.
  • 15/43multi-city adverts are staff or principal level, the highest share of any location type. A role open in several European cities (median three, maximum thirteen) is usually a senior one, and candidates compete across the continent.
  • 5 vs 8years is the median minimum for "senior" versus "staff/principal". Titles aren't consistent: some senior roles ask for 2–3 years, and one staff role asks for 3.
— Work model

Remote, hybrid or on-site: two in three adverts say, some only in the job system

Each advert was coded from its own text or its job system's work-type field. Where an advert says nothing, the second view adds the employer's published office policy. That shows the likely arrangement, but it isn't a commitment made in the advert.

  • 52adverts mention AI/ML skills (41 as a requirement). The top 50 mention AI far more often (31 of 74 adverts) than ranks 51–100 (15 of 60). "Agentic AI" appears in 19.
  • Python · Javaare the most-requested languages (23 and 12 adverts), ahead of Go (8), TypeScript (6) and C++ (5).
— So what

What this means if you hire engineers in Spain

  • ·You are competing with a specific set of employers. For Barcelona product and AI roles it's Apple, King, N26 and Keysight; for Madrid solutions roles, ServiceNow, Databricks, Datadog and the AI labs; for hardware, Analog Devices, Infineon, Monolithic Power and Tesla. Benchmark your offer against them, not against the market average.
  • ·Publishing pay makes you stand out. Only 6 of the 47 hiring employers publish a Spanish range. The EU pay-transparency directive will require a range before the interview; Spain's draft decree (August 2026) leaves that out for now, so publishing today is a choice that sets you apart.
  • ·Put the work model in the advert text. 37 adverts give no work model anywhere, and only 37 of 159 say how many office days.
  • ·Describe the interview process. Only 2 of 159 adverts mention it at all.
  • ·Show a posting date, and refresh or close old adverts. 24 adverts hide the date, and 11 have been live for more than three months, one for over 300 days. A stale post signals a stalled hire.
  • ·Say what "senior" means. Senior adverts ask for anything from 2 to 10 years, and 30 of 159 adverts give no seniority signal at all.
  • ·Specific detail is what differentiates an advert. Communication (64), collaboration (53) and stakeholder management (53) are the most-requested attributes, and Python, Kubernetes, LLMs, Java and Go the most-requested skills. Everyone asks for the same profile.
  • ·Multi-city postings hide you. 43 adverts list Spain among other European cities, so a candidate filtering by Madrid or Barcelona may never see them. Amadeus, Ocado Technology and Huawei have large Spanish teams but no current technical adverts on their official sites.
And what it means for engineers looking for a job
  • ·Pick the city by the job you want: Madrid for solutions and pre-sales engineering, Barcelona for product, AI and chip work, Valencia and Santa Oliva for hardware, Málaga for security engineering.
  • ·Target software, security and AI companies. Four in five of them hire in Spain; most of the top-100 chipmakers don't.
  • ·Remote usually means competing across Europe: 32 of 39 remote roles are open in several countries.
  • ·Expect office time at the biggest US firms even when the advert doesn't say: Amazon and Tesla expect full-time office attendance; Apple, Google and Salesforce at least three days a week.
  • ·Apply early. Half the adverts were under 16 days old, and 44 were posted in the week before the snapshot.
  • ·Degrees are rarely the gate: 97 of 159 adverts state no degree requirement.
  • ·Treat published bands as anchors, and expect Spanish bands to sit 10–20% below Northern Europe's for the same role.

How the data was collected

A deliberately constructed panel, not a ranking or a representative sample of the Spanish labour market. Adverts come only from official careers sites and their applicant-tracking systems; aggregators weren't used. At most five eligible technical adverts are kept per employer (the most recent, or the first in official order where dates are hidden). "Not stated" means the advert didn't say, not that the answer is no. Work models come from the advert text or the job system's own work-type field; the "plus company policy" view adds published employer-wide office rules (Amazon, Tesla, Apple, Google, Salesforce), which may differ for individual teams or countries.

Market capitalisations and private valuations are measured on different dates, so ranks near the top-50 and top-100 cut-offs are indicative. Xiaomi could not be verified, and Uber only for Madrid. Every employer was re-checked on the same day against its own Spain filter or job feed, and records were replaced where the first pass had missed newer or better-matching adverts: the re-check added Google and reversed Cisco from "no technical roles" to 14 Spain-linked postings. King is shown separately from Microsoft because it has its own careers site. Everything was observed on 17 September 2026, and adverts may since have closed.

Questions about big tech hiring in Spain

Which big tech companies are hiring engineers in Spain?

On 17 September 2026, 41 of the 100 largest tech companies had at least one technical vacancy in Spain on their official careers site. They include Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon/AWS, NVIDIA, Tesla, Cisco, Salesforce, SAP, IBM, ServiceNow, Databricks, Datadog, Stripe, Revolut and the AI labs Anthropic and OpenAI. By Spain-filtered results the biggest recruiters were Amazon (274), Revolut (175) and Schneider Electric (163).

Which big tech companies are not hiring in Spain?

50 of the top 100 had no Spanish vacancies at all, including TSMC, Broadcom, Samsung, Micron, AMD, ASML, Intel, Arm, Oracle, Alibaba and Tencent. Meta, Netflix and TikTok had Spanish roles, but none of them technical.

Do big tech companies hire engineers in Madrid or Barcelona?

Both, for different work. 41 of the 159 adverts were Madrid-only, and 46% of those were solutions or pre-sales engineering. 30 were Barcelona-only, split evenly between software, AI and data, and hardware. 43 listed Spain among several European cities, 24 were remote within Spain, and 21 were elsewhere: chip design in Valencia, security engineering in Málaga, vehicle engineering in Santa Oliva (Tarragona) and data centres in Zaragoza.

How much do big tech companies pay engineers in Spain?

Only 16 of the 159 adverts published a Spanish salary range. Published base pay ran from €39.8K–55.4K for a Microsoft data-centre technician to €120K–123K for Google staff engineers in Málaga and Madrid. Stripe paid new graduates in Barcelona €46.2K–69.4K. Where the same advert gave a band for another country, Spain's was 11% below Ireland's (Microsoft) and 22% below the Netherlands' (Workday).

Can you work remotely for big tech from Spain?

39 of the 159 adverts were fully remote, but 32 of those were open in several European countries, so candidates compete across Europe. Only 7 were remote within Spain only (ServiceNow, Google, Cloudflare, Synopsys, Palo Alto Networks). 50 were hybrid and 19 on-site; 37 didn't say.

How was this research done?

We checked the official careers sites of the 100 largest technology companies by market value or private valuation, plus 10 more with a Spanish presence, on 17 September 2026, and re-checked every result against each site's own Spain filter. We kept up to five technical adverts per employer (159 in total) and coded each one for location, work model, pay, seniority and requirements. Aggregators weren't used.
